The Stories of Childhood Conference - June 2014
I was invited to speak at the Stories of Childhood Conference in Melbourne on the topic of supporting children's emotional development through music.

Melbourne songwriter, Alice Garrick’s music is simple, sweet and full of
generosity. The lyric content of her songs are what really make them intriguing
and unique: most songs focus on elements of the child/carer relationship
and revel in the affirmation, love and beauty that both parties receive. The
words bring to focus for children and adults alike the special nature of that
relationship, even on those busy days when stress invades us and tempers heat.

'Dragonfly now has the wonderful 'Songs of Connection' by Melbourne artist Alice Garrick. I put this CD on in the car for my four year old to lots of complaining because he wanted his favourite music on. After a few minutes though he was hooked and at times was laughing out loud and making comments about the lyrics all the way through. He couldn't wait to pick up his brothers for them to have a listen. We are sold! Love it!'

Alice Makes Music featured on NMETV - December 2012
This made me giggle when I came across it. My clip for 'Angus and the Dinosaurs' is featured on online music mag NME, in their music clips section. There it is next to Dave Grohl and The Horrors. NME must love dinosaurs too! But really, who doesn't?
You can watch the clip for 'Angus and the Dinosaurs' below. Animation by Mat Blackwell with drawings by his daughter Indigo (who was 3 at the time).

Songs of Connection by Alice Garrick
I love the opportunity to share new music with you, but it’s even more lovely today to have the opportunity to share a kids’ album from an Australian musician.Alice Garrick is a singer/songwriter based in Melbourne who makes quirky, upbeat music with a folksy feel and a smiley tone.
Songs of Connection is filled with ten bubbly tracks that are super fun for sing-alongs. In particular, track 2 “Dinosaurs lived a long time ago” and track 3 “Mad as a wet hen” which have been favourites in this household over the last few days. Just a warning though, trying to keep up with Alice on “Mad as a wet hen” may result in you passing out from lack of oxygen to the brain!
I also love the song “treats” which just makes me giggle every time I hear it. Why? It’s funny ’cause it’s true…”You know I didn’t mean it. I don’t know how it happened. I went to the cupboard where you keep the treats. And I accidentally ate them”.
My favourite aspect of this CD is Alice’s voice, which has that delicious indie styling with a familiar Australian sound. It’s fabulously unpretentious, and you can feel Alice’s love for both music and children through her songs. Have a little listen…

Review on Barefoot Magazine Blogspot - June 2011
I don't usually get into kids's music so much. In fact, most kid's music makes me feel like I'm going slightly bonkers - but this one was different. Songs of Connection by Alice Garrick is really good. I gave it to my 4 1/2 year old daughter to listen to and I found her snuggled up on her bed with a toy sound asleep at 5pm in the afternoon!! So I thought to myself - it's either boring or so peaceful and lovely that she relaxed completely and fell asleep!! So the next day, my daughter and I lay together and listened again and I was really pleasantly surprised. Beautiful, well composed music and singing that was enjoyable to listen to - I would even be happy to have this one in the car on repeat for a long trip! Now that is saying something!! My daughter was humming the songs after one listen and often now goes into her bedroom and puts it on.. So thanks Alice - for sending me your CD and sharing it with us - I highly recommend Songs of Connection for any family - a gentle, fun CD for your kids to listen to, that won't send you round the bend..

The CD is has some great songs on it. Of course my big boy likes the dinosaur songs and the girls like ‘Mad as a Wet Hen’…. and I’m often wandering around the house humming and singing “Lil Lil Lil Lil Lil…..”. This is not a CD of computer generated, teeny bopper, or cutsey kids songs…. it’s lovely, real, folksy music that is a joy to listen to.
